Where to find a step by step???

Where can I find a good step by step on converting an old athern engine to dcc. Someone had one up and erased all the pics. I thought as well that there was a website that comes around every so often that gets recommended to go to and see how it is done. I have 2 sw1500 that are going to get converted and need some info.

  1. Remove trucks. Solder a wires to BOTH sides of the truck electrical pickups. (this is a crucial step as it by-passes the mechanical electrical connection between the truck and the frame).

  2. Remove Motor. Cut off 2 fingers on bottom of motor. Solder a wire to the underside of BOTH motor clips (remove the clips SLOWLY as the spring likes to bounce away…do one clip at a time).

  3. Place 2 layers of electrical tape between the motor mounts.

  4. Replace motor.

  5. Replace trucks.

  6. Wire up decoder as normal.

Excellent david. I was looking for your post with the pics but all your pics were deleted. I also found the website late yesterday afternoon. All I need is a couple n scale decoders to put in the cab of the 2 engines and I think I will be all set.
