Where to find info on how to build a Live Steam Loco?

Hello every one,

As you may or may not have heard, I am considering changing scales quite strongly. I am wondering if anyone here knows of a good place to go to get information on how to build your own live steam locomotives. A glace at the comercial live steam loco builders known to me, reveals an absece of models for my favorite RR. Since I like to build my own anyway, I am willing to go the build my own route, but I need to know where to go. If you can help. Thanks in advance very much.

James

James,

This might be a long shot but remember the guy here that had the live 4-12-2. Well he was ellling it on Ebay. Below is the link. Maybe you could get some info from him or maybe from his video’s. If you need them just email me for them, he sent me some of them.

I know this sounds real simple, but do a search for “live steam model railroading”. I did a search using Yahoo and came up with Many possibilities. I cannot cut & paste with the brower I use so I cannot list them. You should remember that you can find information on just about every subject using the Internet and using Yahoo or Google.

[#ditto] Yep. real simple. Even I did it with Google. A quick check also revealed there is a forum under Garden Railroads for live steam. Ken

What scale? Hornby made an HO scale live steamer, but G scale seems to be the most common live steam scale.

Of course I’ve had the opportunity to drive a 1/8 scale live steamer once and it was awesome. They’re just really expensive. Maybe when I am old and retired I’ll have the time and money to build one.

Here is a link to a live steam model railroad about twenty miles from where I live. I have been there many times and rode behind a 4-8-4 one time and another time behind a old time 4-4-0. Both are 7.25" gauge and are coal fired. I hope I typed the URL correctly. Too expensive for me.
