Where to get foam board

I live in Austin, Tx and am having a terrible time finding 2" extruded foam board. Home Depot has the 1/2 & 3/4" stuff but that’s it. it’s $10 a shhet where as the 2" sheets(If they had it) would only be around $20. Calling Dow and Corning’s Customer Service for retailers selling that size has turned up nothing.Does anyone have a source for this stuff close to me. Driving to Dallas or San Antonio wouldn’t be out of the question.

I have the same issue in New Orleans, both Lowe’s and Home Depot have the 1/2" stuff, where do you find the 2" stuff? I wonder if it is a temperature zone thing, being in the south there may not be a big demand for thicker insulations.

I’m having a similar problem in the San Jose CA area. I have found 1/2 " and 1" foam called Dy-Foam which is white styrofoam. But cannot find the thick “blue” of “pink” foam from Dow.

well, buy 2 sheets of the half-inch, glue them on top of each other, then on top of 1 inch plywood. That’ll be strong enough.

Must be an area thing. We have it here in NE Ill 2" $17.48 (R-10) or 2" High density ($19.99) R-10

I think it is related to the area and the normal temperature range. Here in North Georgia I can get 1/2, 3/4 and 1", but not thicker. I just glue pieces up until I’ve got the thickness I need.

Have Fun,

Don’t drive to San Antonio or anywhere else around here. Tom Watkins is absolutely right. In the south we don’t need 2" insulation.

I can glue it to the needed thickness, and I probably will have to. From a cost standpoint, it costs twice as much to do it like that. $10 for 1/2" as opposed to $20 for a 2" sheet…

Well where im from i can only get the white styrofom kind. it works ok but messy as hell.

It is obvious why, as you all have surmised already, the warmer the climate the thinner the insulation until you move far enough south where you need none. Although, I wonder why they don’t use to insulate against the HEAT !!!
Woodland scenics has quite a variety of foam products, you might find what you need at WWW.Woodlandscenics.com Or, you might want to come north during the summer for vacation, and purchase all you need!! You might even buy enough to seel some to your neighbors who are MRR’rs.

I hate to break everyone’s bubble about the south not needing any 2" thick insulation.
That’s where all of mine came from, here in Arcadia when the county was building the new courthouse. They put up a block building, covered it w/2" pink & green high density foam & then put brick over that. Also, our jail was built the same way. It cuts way down on airconditioning costs in our 100% humidity’s & 99* weather in the summers.
Look in your area for foam insulation companies that handle sheetrock & other types of
insulation boards. We have about 10 in south fla. that carries the green & pink. It’s not cheap. The last time I checked, about 5 years ago & it was $35.00 for a 4x8 sheet. That’s the retail price, not wholesale.

5 below here in the Northeast, just outside of Boston, the last couple of nights. I’d gladly trade a winter’s heating bill (or even a week’s worth) for the cost differential to buy foam in the Deep South. Of course, I only had to run the AC about 10 days last year.
