Hello everyone - over the last few years my father has gotten into garden rail roading. I know nothing about it, but want to get him some scale model stations, houses, etc for fathers day. I live in Chicago and was wondering if anyone could advise me as to a good place to go (in Chicago or suburbs) to purchase this stuff. Thank you
Robhill, welcome to the forum.
St Aubin Station is one of the largest suppliers of G and garden railroading supplies there is, they are in Woodstock, Ill. northeast of Chicago about 1 hour away.
www.lgbpola.com is the webpage
Hi Rob,
Welcome to the forum! St. Aubins is incredibly well stocked and very much worth the drive. Hope you find what you want. Later eh…Brian.
Rob,
Welcome to the forum!
There’s also Pizza-Express http://www.pizzatrains.com/ in Chicagoland. [;)][:)]
Don’t forget to try www.hobbyretailer.com too
Just type in a ZIP code, city, or state and hobby shops will come up in that area. Not all of them carry large scale, but it’s a start.
I am sorry i can’t help you I have never been to Chicago the nearest was Cleveland Ohio.
However I have Airisto in my layout, my wife got them for me for my birthday, I have a water tower and a waiting station. I would like a nice big bridge and i was thinking of Lone Star, they are just great, their quality is beyond question. They also have links to another mob that does terrififc metal bridges. I would like myself, a covered bridge that doubles as a bridge and a little tunnel as well.
So Try Aristocraft and or Lone Star or links from there. I cannot use Aristo rolling stock but their rail is pretty good as is their track side buildings. Pola is also very good. LGB have two bridges which are manufactured as against being made in a workshop prices are ok and of course the quality is beyond question but they are manufactured and look it and also you can sometimes need a whole lot of accessories to go with them (Pylons etc) and than the price nearly doubles.

Captain Kangaroo.
Try Hills Hobby in Park Ridge. They don’t have the largest selection but you can probably find something nice. And it’s alot easier to get to than Woodstock!
