Lets suppose I have a Proto 1000 RS11 which I would like to put sound into. Where would I start? What’s out there for sound decoders in various price ranges, and are there any installation photos/examples out on the web anywhere?

I would start by contacting Litchfield Station. Bruce Petrarca does good work and can give you the expert information you are seeking about what sound system would best fit your Proto 2000 RS11.

Tony’s Trains also has several photo/instruction templates on his website, though don’t know about the RS-11 in particular.

Look for installations done to Alco RS3 (RS-3), RS2 (RS-2) and RSC2 (RSC-2) models, they are more popular and common than the RS11. Any method that works with one of those, will work with your RS11.
