where's #8888 @?

Does anyone remember when CSX #8888 was sent running away south out of toledo? I got to see it first hand in bowling green! thank god no one was hurt!!! anyone know where it’s been?

Crazy Eights ran away from the cold a few years ago. It has been seen in the Bone Valley as recently as six months ago when I was there, on a ready track at Mulberry Yard, too far from my camera and behind some stored hoppers. Don’t know if it’s still there, but I will look next time I go.

I have an article of that in my archives.I also have a few shots of the unit coming through deshler.

Stay safe

8888 has been stored at Waycrosse for the last year or so.

The engine has been stored since April 2009 in ‘ready-alert’ status. (whatever that is supposed to mean).

Probably the same as LUGO (laid up good order) on BNSF, stored servicable on other roads.

That means that the engine is alert for an opportunity and ready to venture out on the main line again. I’d be very careful around Waycross, and keep that thing in the middle of the storage track!
