Bachmann makes an HO B23/B30-7 in Santa Fe blue and yellow. It’s got a smooth flywheel drive mechanism and only costs $40 retail.
Atlas has announced the B23-7 in HO. they are taking orders now but i am not sure when they ship. as glcole61 said, got to http://www.atlasrr.com and click on the new HO products section to get all the info.
Originally due in June, but the status shows that the container from China hasn’t even shipped yet - and that takes a month !!!
Atlas will probably update the status soon (they are better than most for updateing their dates).
Plan on August.
Is the flywheel drive mechanism as good as an Athearn?
I would say that the Bachmann Plus line is about as good as an Athearn. the drive is similar and the models dont have much detail. but if you dont have the cash for the Atlas model, it makes a somewhat good stand-in.
stay away from Bachmann Spectrum diesels tho, their drives are pure junk.
The new Spectrum diesel drives are excellent. The one in my F40PH runs as smooth as a P2K, with a very slight growel similar to the growel in Athearn diesels, but much quieter. The flywheels are extremely well balanced and the gears are black plastic and don’t split like the old nylon ones.
The non-DCC ones are apparently either in a container on the way or already at Atlas preparing to ship.
The DCC ones got delayed in China.
