Hi folks,
I just ordered two kits from JL. I haven’t built a kit since my “Ezra Coopers garage” many years ago.
I don’t even remember what glue I used.
What is recommended these days? eg wood to wood, wood to metal (ACC?) etc.
Thanks for reading,
BB

Good old Testers wood glue still works, but yellow carpenters glue works better, though slower. Tacky glue works fast but does not hold so well. Super glue(ACC)will hold non wood stuff together and hold non wood to wood. It will only dry instantly with an accelerater. I find that putting the glue on a plastic cup top and transfering it to the work with a tooth pick is less messy.
You will have a blast, it is more fun than when we are kids and the kits are better.
Hi ; I use Duco Cement for wood to wood, takes about 5 minutes to dry and i have not ever had it brake hold; now that ACC is on the market i use that for all other glueing ; and thats been a long time.
For wood kits such as Quality Craft, I use Handi Bond medium or thick ACC. The thin seems to soak into the wood too fast.

Use acc, you can get it in a three pack at the dollar store, just make sure it is manufactured by pace, will read that in the small type. It is the same stuff the hobby shops sell for big $$$. Get both the thin and thick, for most applications the thin works best but sometimes the other is needed. I’ve built Campbell, Keystone and others and even had some creature make it into the hobby room and sending some to the floor, they just bounced.
I also have been using ACC a lot lately. I use the Loctite brand.
I have made almost the entire JL range at some time or another. There are at least 6 of them on my Picturetrail site. Anyway, I really like to use a wood molding glue. It is a more tacky carpenters glue and sets up quickly. I apply it sparingly with a tooth pick. I can’t recal the brand and I am away from home for the rest of the week.
I use Elmer’s yellow wood glue applied with a toothpick and it works good for me.
Bruce, try Weldbond. It’s like a super strength white glue. It’s water soluable and dries clear. Used full strength, it can bond almost any porus or non-porus material. It can be thinned with water. It can also be used as a sealer, bonding agent and concrete hardener! It’s slow drying like white glue (1 hour) with a 24 hour cure time. You can get it at any hardware or home supply store.
I use the good old-fashioned yellow wood glue. Works great, is cheap and the bond lasts for years. Sets up faster than white glue, too.
I almost never use ACC for anything but household repairs, but I will use the gel type for attaching metal or plastic components to a wood kit.
