I plan to replace the iron power wheels sets on my older Athearn diesel locomotives with nickel silver. I read that nickel will not oxidize or pick up dirt as quickly as the old iron wheels do. Is there any one brand that you all have used that you recommend (or otherwise think I should stay away from)? I read that NorthWest Short Line or Jay-Bee were good. What say you? Thanks. NWSL and Jay-Bee are both good. I also got a replacement set of loco wheels and gears from Atlas, and they were good too. Now days, almost any good manufacturers wheel sets are good if they are nickel silver. The trick is getting the axle the correct size so it fits the gear without cracking it.
