I’m getting back into the hobby and Kadees where the only choice when I last was active now I see there other choices. What’s your opinion?

Pesonally, I like Accumates. Although, it seems I’m in a class by myself. Everybody claims Kadees are the best. I can’t stand the things. Springs will break too easily for me.

Kadees bar-none. Theyre all metal and I have broken many of the cheap plastic ones pulling long trains. I have never broken a kadee coupler. I have even pulled the coupler boxes off of cars but have never had the coupler fail.

Kadee’s are the only choice,the rest of them quite frankly,aren’t worth what there made of. Sure Mchenry are cheaper,but if you have or are going to have a large fleet of rolling stock,your far better off with Kadee’s. I made the mistake of buying mchenry couplers and installing them on a few of my cars,only to have to buy kadee’s to fix the problem after mchenry couples break. But its a free country,do as you wish,I still say Kadee’s…Patrick
I’ve used hundreds of Kadee, McHenry, and Bachmann knuckle spring couplers and have never broken a single one. I have even pulled a consist of seven Proto 2000 GP9s and over 100 pieces of rolling stock up a 2 percent grade with no coupler problems.
Avoid the cheap McHenry couplers that don’t have a knuckle spring, though, because they are no good at all.
Kadee is the only one that is metal – all of the others are plastic.

Every once in a while somebody comes up w/ an adverising slogan that catches on because it sucincly sums up a truth (Where’s the beef?). Back when some of the NMRA fanatics wanted to make that abomination “standard” KD came up w/ “KD the standard by choice”. It was true then and ir’s true now.

Kadee for sure. They make couplers to fit just about any situation and they’re built to last. I’ve used them for almost 50 years and when I converted my original cars to the Magne-matics, I reused those cars’ original mechanical Kadees, with the straight pin for uncoupling, on my maintenance of way and work service cars.

The new KD’s#58’s.
I have broken a KD#5. Dropped an engine on a concrete floor, hit on the coupler and snapped the head off the coupler. I’ll give them that one. Other tahn that they are the most consistantly reliable and rugged coupler of the magnetic knuckle couplers.

But the problem is, in HO scale I keep losing the stupid pins!!! LOL
And, unfortunately, they don’t quite look right on my Athearn P42’s.
For those, the Kadee 40 series (metal) couplers are the best.
KADEE is the best!..you can’t beat the #5’s…they’ve been around for a long time and i’ve never used anything else…
If you want to pull long trains then Kadee’s are the only way to go. A new piece of equipment doesn’t hit my layout until I swap in a set of Kadee’s.

What does Life-Like use on their P1K’s and P2K’s? Anybody know? Whatever they are, don’t get them. I’ve only been back in MR for about 6 months, and I’ve already had to swap out several of those things.
The good news is that Kadees will just drop in.
Kadee, and I’d put all my locos on it. The #5s are tried and true, and though the #58s are good looking, they’re not quite as reliable. As for McHenry, well they can sod off. Same design with most of the other cheap stuff
