which forum to post this subject?

[?] Hi guy’s I am looking to purchase a HO starter set that has Dcc. And which system should I buy? Looking for a small engine that will negotiate a small radius. I have now quite a bit of Fleishmann profi-track that I would like to use. [:)][:)][:)]

I received a Roco DCC starter set for my birthday about two years ago.

It runs fairly well, but has very little in variable programming or general features. Comes with a flange-squealing 15" radius oval of track. Good for starters. I’m working on reprogramming my two locomotives and their variables via Xpressnet:

Bachmann also makes a starter set that has a little more expandable system.
Ranges from basic starter to Spectrum. I don’t know anything more about the Bachmann DCC system, except that the Bachmann basic engines are pretty much a no-no for modeling.

~hope this helps.

(Edit: this posted under the premise that he wanted some trains in the DCC starter set)

Digitrax will fit the bill for your expandible system, as described below.

I suggest that you look at the Digitrax Zephyr System. You can add Digitrax items when expanding your layout. I added a DT400 throttle which gives control of three loco’s without have to leave one and select another. It also makes programming decoder easy.

Hi John Thanks for some of your input about the Dcc system. What are some of those digitrax items that you say I can use?. Do I have to look for engines that have Digitrax circuit boards in them? There are more questions that I would like to ask but I’ll wait until I research this digitrax system on the internet. Felix

Felix,

The good place for you to check out is Tony’s Train Exchange:

Right there on the home page, click on 2. DCC For Beginners. A good reference that will explain a lot of the questions will have (and will have) on DCC and what it can do. Definitely worth a read. You can either read it online or download it as a .pdf file.

Besides asking questions here, you can make a side by side comparison of the various DCC systems that are out there and their features:

To answer your one question, any NMRA-compliant DCC system is designed to run any decoder. That way you don’t ever have to match up decoders to DCC systems. (e.g. Digitrax to Digitrax; NCE to NCE, etc.)

Hope that helps…

Tom

Thanks Tom Let me digest this information that you gave me and I’ll come back to this thread and ask for some questions that I may have. Thank you once again. Felix
