which loco?

what locomotive would go good with ihc (ho scale) amtrak phase 2 pullman standerd smoth side streamlined cars?

BNSF–

Your grammar’s just fine, your spelling could use a little work (but hey, I’m a teacher, and so could mine, sometimes, LOL! [:D]

If they’re IHC smooth-side Pullmans, I’d say anything from an AMTRAK E-8 to an AMTRAK FP-45. Hopefully some other responders will have other suggestions.

Good luck, and welcome to a GREAT hobby!

thanks but i got anouther question um what all falls between that?

F7’s, FP7’s, F45’s, F40’s(phase I paint), E8’s, E9’s. In this time period Amtrak still had a number of loco’s inthe predecessor freight railroad paint. There were Penn Central E8’s and GP9’s used on the old New Haven for a number of years after the formation of Amtrak.

i can only find thats afordable for me f2 and f7, i have fond f40 that is afordable buy but only in phase 3 or 4[:(] but ill do some more looking.

I certainly like seeing 7th graders and other young people doing model railroading.

Amtrak has been in existance now since about 1970. What era are you modeling?

You may prefer a locomotive to match the era of the cars.

My Gramma’s just fine…

yes i do want the loco to match the era like i dont want a genisis loco, but i dont have a set era, i have 5 consists and the era from late 1800’s to modern. the only afordable locomotive i can find is a model power f2 and f7 or a gg-1 but i dont know about the amtrak era on thoughs. (the gg-1 is made by ihc)

GG1’s last ran in '84.

Bachmann Makes a decent E60CP that is suitable if your modeling electric operations. Don’t get the model power F2, it looks horrible. Athearn makes an Amtrak F7 that will look and run much better. The IHC GG1 is of the right era and will run well.

well.[#dots] i was looking on the athearn web site today and they quit making the ho scale f7’s. ill proly go with the gg-1.

Athearn quit making the F7? Are we talking about the Blue Box, the RTR, or the Genesis?

ok i didnt make that a complete, they still make the f7 just they quit making a few difrent roadnames the ones that i know of is bn and amtk. they still make the f7.

ps they still they make the kit, rtr and the genesis versions.

g:
I suspect Athearn just discontinued that particular paint scheme for a while. They produce stuff in batches. A distributor probably could be found that had them in stock.

If you haven’t yet picked an era, BNSF, the F7 is your best bet. If at some point your interest changes, it can easily be repainted and used for any of the many purposes F7s were used for over their long service lives, from fast passenger trains on the 1940s Santa Fe to switching the ore docks in Conneaut, OH, which ended a few years ago.

With a GG1 or an F40PH you’re a lot more restricted in potential reuses.

Don’t know if these would fit?

well[#dots] not realy the lifelike was out of stock and the site that the bachman was on didnt have auther things i want.[:(][:(][:(]

looks like i’m back into a corner[xx(] i check the amtrack gg-1 on walthers.com and all 3 diffrent sceams were out of stock and unown dilivery.

what do i do now?
