Anyone have comments or anything to say about these model to help me decide
One question does the B23-7 have the same sounds as the B30-7 by atlas?
Atlas and Athearn Genesis are both great quality. QSI makes the sound decoder for Atlas, and I suspect they both may use the same decoder.

Most Athearn Locos, use MRC decoders. There is a varying degree of opinions on what is better, Athearn Genesis, or Atlas Gold.

I have run the Athern Genesis MP15AC in the CP Rail,Soo and MRR on My DC layout,these versions were without sound,but have run the Railink MP15AC with sound on my DC layout,the sound was great and the operation of the unit was great,I am in waiting for the CP Rail version with sound and with any luck will have it this weekend,the Non sound ones run as great also,the little strobe light Lights up but does not strobe, Still very cool anyway, One of our Members has a small online Hobby shop he runs here and I get to try all his new engines when he gets them, which is always fun.

I would suggest you check the forum for comments on the DCC characteristics of the Genesis locomotives. Current Genesis units use MRC decoders which have not been the most reliable or user friendly. There have been several recent threads about the MP15AC in that regard. If you get a Genesis engine you may want to get the DC version and add a sound decoder yourself. Atlas’ quality speaks for itself…you won’t go wrong with them.
