which manufacturer is the best for Ho US or CN diesel switcher ?

i have noticed that proto 2000 has many , but the weight is too light , can anyone tell me which manufacturer is good for HO diesel switcher??

Have you checked out a Broadway switcher, alot of guys here have them and I think they all gave good reports. I have two on order.

Ken.

Too light?

Switcher’s traditionally only handled a few car’s at a time.

“BEST”? At what? Running? Look’s? Cheap? You’ll get 101 opinion’s.

MY RECOMMENDATION’S: (50’s) STEWART Baldwin VO’s
(more recent) Athearn RTR CF-7
(cheap) Bachmann. and good luck.

Martin,

Gotta agree with Don. I just picked up a Stewart Baldwin VO-660 switcher (early 40’s) and it is VERY nice. My Proto 2000 Alco S1 (another early 40’'s switcher) is even smoother.

If pulling power is an issue, either one of those will pull 15+ cars on a level track. But, like Dan stated, they’re switchers and would only move a maximum of a few cars at a time.

If price is an issue, you can pick up the Proto 2000 S1 from Trainworld.com for as cheap as $29.99* (Not bad for a $110 locomotive.)

Tom

*Depending on the road name. Some are $39.99. Still…

I also am a Stewart fan, and I run alot of switchers.

Atlas will be releasing a MP15DC this November … they always have good stuff.

Jim

The Life-Like GM switchers are the best running units in my fleet, while the Atlas ALCO switchers are the best pullers.

mp15dc is gonna be a cool engine they outta have great pulling power and supurb detail
