About a month ago I sent the following email to MTL and to date have not had a reply. Maybe some one here can help?
Hi,
I have purchased a set of N-Scale Con-Cor 85’ Passenger cars. Con-Cor part #'s 0001-040xxM which have 4 wheeled trucks with Rapido couplers and an Observation car which has the same truck at one end and a body mounted coupler at the other. Which part number(s) do I need to convert them to MT trucks and couplers. I assume that #1017 trucks will replace the existing ones but am unsure of the body mount coupler. Thanks in advance
Go to the MT website. Under Conversions is a PDF list of all the trucks/couplers and a breakdown of which units to use for specific manufacturers and their rolling stock and locomotives. Put your high powered reading glasses on for this one, as the print is quite small.
The 1017 and 1017S(silver) trucks come with an adjustable coupler length. This allows for close coupling of the cars for a more realistic look.
These couplers can also be applied to the floor of the car as a body mount. By using them this way, you can save a few dollars. I used this method on my Kato smooth side cars and Kato business cars. Just reverse the truck on the back of the observation car, coupler mount facing to the center of the car, to prevent interference.
If you choose to get other body mounted couplers, your best bet is the 1015 or 1016. The 1016 has a longer coupler shank if that is needed. Either can be purchased in sets of ten or in a combination pack that has both types.
Thanks guys.
Yeah I had looked at the PDF file but tere was so many different trucks listed for the one car that I found it confusing.
I’ll give the 1017 a go and maybe order a set of 1016 as well.
Thanks again for the response. Now how hard would it have been for MTL to have done that.
