Which Railroads besides Union Pacific and Canadian Pacific own SD-90 MACs?

Hi fellow Railroaders![:)]

I’ve been interested in the SD-90 MAC for some time and was wondering who else besides UP and CP has SD-90 MACs in their rosters? I’d appreciate some information.

Thanks!

Rob Knight

EMDX EMD Leasing SD90MACH

No other railroads own them but CIT has them for lease painted maroon under the CEFX reporting marks. I dont think these are true SD90s, im thinking they were the SD90/43MAC. Feel free to correct me if Im wrong anybody.

Which version the 9043 or teh 90H mac there are 2 different verisons

Whatever happened to the General Motors Locomotive Group (EMDX) SD90MAC display engine 8204?? Did UP get it??

Conrail owned SD80MACs which were identical to the SD90MACs. I don’t know if any opther railroads bought either loco though. But CSX and NS inherited conrails fleet of SD80MACs.

Conrail’s SD80MACs have a similar hood layout to the SD90MACs. Inside, they have a 20-cylinder 710G-series prime mover. The “true” 90MACs have the 16-cylinder, 4-cycle 6000HP H engine (beveled roof edges above the engine), but the 9043MAC “convertibles” have the 16-cylinder, 2-cycle 4300HP 710G engine (square hood roof edges above the engine).

I believe that 8204 remains in service with Uncle Pete.

Lol I think the UP Has this one too!

Not to sound like an idiot, but what does the “MAC” in “SD-XXMAC” stand for?

The M stands for Modified with a wide cab. Thw AC stands for AC Traction Motors.

Ahh…thanks! That’s been stewing for a while.

Here are some other domestic EMD designations

A=Cab equipt. unit or it could mean special order(longer frame, usually for bigger fuel tank)
AC=alternator rectifier on older (2nd gen) units or on newer units AC traction motors
B=Cabless unit (may have a de-commisioned cab)
D=duty as in SD special duty or DD double duty
E=on earlier streamliners-eighteen hundred HP (6axle A-1-A)
E=at the end-EMD rebuild
e=Tier 2 emmisions compliant
F=on earlier streamliners-fourteen hundred HP (4axle)
F=on later units-full body (cowl unit)
GP=general purpose (4axle)
H=head end power equipt
I=isolated “whisper cab”
L=lightweight (may have 3axle A-1-A trucks)
M=north american safty cab or wide cab (without an AC after it implies DC
M=Morrison Knudsen rebuilt unit
MP=multi purpose (4axle switchers)
N=nine hundred HP on earlier switchers
P=passenger unit
R=rebuild
S=six hundred HP on earlier switchers
T=twelve hundred HP on earlier switchers units
T=tunnel motors on SD40s & SD45s
u=rebuilt units in canada
V=VMV re built unit
W=wide cabs in Canada (not sure on this one)
X=experimental unit
-2=modular electrical cabinet
-3=advanced electronics / traction controll

I think I read somewhere that these are ex-UP units that returned to EMD after the end of a 5-year lease. Could be wrong though …

And welcome to the forum Rob.

Hey we are forgetting one the CF-7 that stands for Clebeurne TX F unit rebuild 7 series.

The CP SD90MAC-Hs have been stored serviceable as of February 2006.

It’s news to me that the Conrail SD-80MAC’s are identical to the SD-9043’s. I thought there was a horsepower difference and a few other minor things. I have seen and photographed a CEFX unit , and I think I have seen a CP unit up here in the Twin Cities, but would have to go through my slides (*** I am going to miss Kodachrome) to confirm that I have a photo of one.[%-)][%-)][?]
