I’ve been interested in the SD-90 MAC for some time and was wondering who else besides UP and CP has SD-90 MACs in their rosters? I’d appreciate some information.
No other railroads own them but CIT has them for lease painted maroon under the CEFX reporting marks. I dont think these are true SD90s, im thinking they were the SD90/43MAC. Feel free to correct me if Im wrong anybody.
Conrail owned SD80MACs which were identical to the SD90MACs. I don’t know if any opther railroads bought either loco though. But CSX and NS inherited conrails fleet of SD80MACs.
Conrail’s SD80MACs have a similar hood layout to the SD90MACs. Inside, they have a 20-cylinder 710G-series prime mover. The “true” 90MACs have the 16-cylinder, 4-cycle 6000HP H engine (beveled roof edges above the engine), but the 9043MAC “convertibles” have the 16-cylinder, 2-cycle 4300HP 710G engine (square hood roof edges above the engine).
I believe that 8204 remains in service with Uncle Pete.
A=Cab equipt. unit or it could mean special order(longer frame, usually for bigger fuel tank)

Note: This is the domestic list. Export units have different designations.
It’s news to me that the Conrail SD-80MAC’s are identical to the SD-9043’s. I thought there was a horsepower difference and a few other minor things. I have seen and photographed a CEFX unit , and I think I have seen a CP unit up here in the Twin Cities, but would have to go through my slides (*** I am going to miss Kodachrome) to confirm that I have a photo of one.[%-)][%-)][?]
