whistle/horn question

Hi! This afternoon, I took two older diesel engines to an “Authorized Lionel Service Center” for repair. The whistle/horns no longer work. To my surprise, I was told that they do not do whistle/horn repairs. My question: From your recent experience, is this a sign of the times or is it just this service center’s preference? Appreciate your input. As always, many thanks.

Are they a “Lionel Service Center” or just a local hobby shop who just sells trains and does some repairs?

There are still lots of places that repair PW stuff. Many of the parts are still available (either original surplus or “new” reproduction items). I was at a large repair/parts center in central Michigan and they were working on repair of a PW tender while I was standing there getting parts.

Hello Traindaddy! Most likely it is the shop’s preference. There should be someone in your area who can repair them for you or install new Horn Units in them. Maybe you can take them over to New Jersey to the Train Station in Mountain Lakes. They should be able to do something for you. Take Care.

Dougdagrump-Chuckn-Keith: Many thanks.
