White Auto Racks?

On the Roanoke web cam and even here in my area (Ogden, UT) these seem to be showing up once in awhile, but which RR is releasing white Auto Racks? I can never see them up close when they appear but can tell they don’t seem to be graffiti work. (80 foot units-cars)

Anyone know?

Bryan

First of all, welcome to the forums, Bryan.

Do the auto-racks you’re seeing look like these (not a good shot, but it’s the best I’ve got)?

These are articulated auto-racks, permanently-joined sets of two with just one truck underneath the joint. The ones in the picture are marked BNSF- don’t know if other RRs have bought any. Carl?

Through some google searches and images, I found what I’ve been seeing. They are Providence and Worcester racks. Just the standard TTX racks, 80 feet, and from a distance were a shiny white color. Google shows a few here.

Energized your link… cool! I haven’t seen any like them.

Sorry, new forum user, little knowledge…

Thanks

This is my video of CN freight train in Michigan with a Providence & Worcester Auto Carrier.

Brian:

About a year ago, I witnessed a set of these articulated auto-racks passing thru here on N S…Don’t remember if they had any owner Icon on them or not…Those are the only two I’ve ever seen. Just like the ones in your photo.

I am sure

Can you see the bolts for the shackles?

The Providence & Worcester got a couple hundred new auto racks last year. They are brand-new racks installed on some well-worn former piggyback cars, from various sources (FEC is one of them). The flat cars were rebuilt from standard-deck to low-deck cars (a first, I think) to accommodate the trilevel racks. The numbers on these cars are in several series, not consecutive, and bear a relationship to the numbers previously held by the cars.

Now, Brian, in answer to your question, there are, or have been, Gunderson Auto-Max cars lettered for a number of railroads besides BNSF: CSX, KCS, Soo Line, Ferromex, Ferrosur, Arkansas-Oklahoma, and UP. There may be others, but I can’t think of them off the top of my head.

The articulated sets are “Auto-Max,” as I recall. Standing next to the tracks when a long string of them is going by is like standing next to a moving wall. They are tall, since they were built in large part for moving SUV’s.

Carl’s partial shot is of an Auto-Max car set.

That’s Brian’s shot, Larry. You won’t see anything taken by me here–even my avatar shot was taken by Pat.

They’re FEMA prisoner cars, and they are coming for you, you can run, but you can’t hide, they will find you. Look inside, there are the chains, benches and shackles, they are coming. just go to youtube and search for FEMA Trains [(-D][(-D][(-D]

Unfortunately, there are those who actually believe that those are more than simple autoracks.
