I wonder what they will call the combined magazine? Are they just going to drop the “illustrated” part of the name and call the whole thing Railfan and Railroad? I guess we’ll see.
Hopefully, the combination will create the indepth detail and coverage CTC Board Magazine (what is now RR Illustrated) offered in the 1980s.
The announcement on the website states that Railroad Illustrated is being folded into Railfan & Railroad and the magazine will use the Railfan & Railroad name.
Might we see more BNSF coverage? Santa Fe background would also be welcomed.
I think that this is great news.
Interesting development… I have enjoyed receiving both magazines. Railroads Illustrated for informational value
and Railfan & Railroads for the numerous photographs. .
I hope Ms. Priest has greatly improved her knowledge of the prototype since she launched her Union Pacific book some years ago. That book was packed with errors of fact and interpretation - misleading as well as wrong. It surprises me that she is the editor of a prototype magazine - perhaps it’s because she has money in it.
Let’s hope they drop (or at least minimize) the “Railfan” part of the title. Their "how I spent my summer vacation chasing trains " articles got pretty boring after a while. In fact, I would have dropped my subscription several years ago had it not been for their transit, political and news coverage. While “Trains” covered the history and economics of featured properties, R&R told you where to go to get good pictures.
