After watching all the ads for the upcoming new Trains.com website, I’m left with the impression that the MRVP content will only be available with the full paid subscription to Trains.com. Kalmbach’s being cagey though; they don’t say. And they also don’t talk about the cost of a subscription (I suspect it will be significantly higher than the current MRVP subscription)…
Anybody have any additional information or thoughts? Will we be able to subscribe to individual sections of interest, or is Kalmbach going to an “all or nothing” approach? And if the latter, what happens to the remainder of our TMTV [edit: I meant MRVP, of course] subscriptions?
“And if the latter, what happens to the remainder of our TMTV subscriptions?”
Oops, got your video subscriptions mixed up there, but I have both as well. As to your other points, I’d also like to know what’s going to happen with existing subscriptions and pricing. I currently subscribe to the print and digital editions of MR, and have an “All Access” pass to MRVP and the digital archive. I’m not really particularly interested in the Trains side of things, nor Garden Railways etc. I’d like to continue to have access to the things I have now, preferably at no more cost. I hope Kalmbach come up with some answers soon, and that they make the transition clear and simple, especially for long time subscribers (30+ years of me).
I have MRVP, I don’t know what TMVT is. There are other companies which have a product similar to MRVP.
I see now TMTV is a product of the other company.
The MRVP Toy Train and Garden railway vids I look at some of the time, but they are no value to me. If they decide to make the price non competitive, I am out of there.
In general, I don’t care for the trend of using videos for everything. If there’s a news story, let me read about it. I don’t need some talking head standing in front of a police station reporting. Of course, I grew up when children were actually taught to read.
Even if a train or airplane has WiFi, it would be kind of rude to sit there listening to videos. I can just read very quietly. And no, I’m not spending even more money for Bluetooth headphones because manufacturers won’t spend a dime for a headphone jack.
