Who do you think would make the best 4-4-0 in HO?[:)]

I would probably go with Bachmann Spectrum. But it would also be nice if Bowser made a kit.[:D]

I know IHC and MDC already made them, but I put them in anyway.[:D]

I would have to say Bachmann Spectrum. I’m not just going by quality, I’m going by affordablity as well.

Now, are we talking 19th century 4-4-0s, or 20th century 4-4-0’s? Either way, I’ll stick with Bachmann.

Either

i’ll go with bachmann as well . mainly because i could afford one . i don’t really need one though

I’ll go with somehting even I can afford and I know works Athearn Genisis.

What about the Cary metal boiler on the old Mantua General chassis? It built up into a nice looking engine, circa 1890 or so. One of these days I wonder of Bowser will construct their own chassis (or buy the Mantua tooling) and make this a kit or RTR model

Bowser still makes the Cary boilers - they retail for about thirty dollars apiece. If you want to build one, there are usually at least five or six Mantua Generals going on Ebay on any given day, many of them untouched kits still in the original box.

I voted for Broadway because I wanted sound.

But I really believe that if they wanted to, Bachman, because of their years of expereince (and tooling) could do a good job. Also I see that Atlas just came out with an N scale 4-4-0.

Personally, I would like to see what Precision Scale Co., Inc. could produce in a vintage American, selecting from their vast array of parts, including spoked pilot wheels, a photoengraved boiler wrapper, photoengraved tender, and possibly square counterweight drivers from Greenway Products.

I don’t know which is best but I have a Bach 440 question. I have an older one,
(maybe 15 year old Jupiter). The one with the motor in the tender and a drive shaft going to the loco.Do they still make that one? I broke the drive shaft and need a new one. I emailed Bach and got what seemed like an automatic reply that said they don’t stock parts for things that old and a copy of their standard warrenty. I’m not looking for free warrenty work, I just want to buy a part. Can anyone help?

I went with Kato? because they usually have nice products. But, to my surprise, I’m the only one that has voted Kato[?]… I probably wouldn’t get one anyway…just depending on what roadnames. I’m 99% into modern stuff, though, as I model CSX in 2000.
