Who DOESN'T Have A Layout?

I think many of us assume we all have some kind of layout, but I bet there’s many people out there who don’t currently have one for various reasons. If you don’t, please come forward and identify yourself. And if you plan to build one, tell us about your plans.[:)]

I don’t have a formal layout right now, just a loop on the floor to run trains. I plan to build a 4x8 in the summer.

Yea right we don’y have a layout?

I don’t have my own but I do have visitation rights…[swg]

Hello All: Just moved to a new house. Basement construction to begin shortly, I have a 21 x 21 area mapped out for the new layout. there is no sense putting the layout together yet. Drywall dust & trains do not mix. Kind Regards Steve

Steve,

I still have drywall dust everywhere; know whatchya mean.

Just started on my new one it is in a l shape 12’ by 11’ by 8’ more like a horse shoe, it will let you run three trains it has a contruction sean and a city seane and a cole seane with a lot of things going on on it. It will take me about 6 months to get it finished I am using Realtrax and DCS system. will have pictures on here soon. Wayne Gilbert in VA.

If I had Doug’s visitation rights, I wouldn’t have a layout either! He is running on one of the nation’s top three rail layouts at Balboa Park in San Diego and as I have said before I am green with envy. [8D]

starting my next layout is about three months off. I did a makeshoft layout that was U-shaped 6 x 10 x 15 x 6 in the living room to test my old material and get the feel for it.

I was originally figuring on a 4x16 with a 4x4 at the end to form a J, but I have gotten custody of a 13 x 13 room instead. Lets just say the non-layout space will be a 4x3 section in the center and the space from the door to the section.

The layout will be multi level - probably three levels and will include a downtown strip, a drive in movie and associated surroundings, a good sized yard, a refinery and a coal mining area. The very very short people who live on this layout will be able to get to work and other areas of the layout by way of the trolley system which has three trolleys criss crossing the layout on different routes.

Film at 11:00 (just not sure on what day at 11:00).

Not yet ,but Laz got me thinking .have the room but dont want to make it twice

No layout. Used to have a nice postwar setup in the basement but my two kids needed more room so my layout was literally tossed in the garbage. Of coarse all the track and trains were saved.
My new layouts are of the living room rug type. Several days after they are assembled they are disassembled(which was today).
My latest idea is a layout in our greenhouse! Probably in G scale. I t needs some major remodeling but I think by next winter it’s do-able. I don’t think O gauge would work out in the elements as the greenhouse is pretty primative and not exactly water tight.
Until then the floor is my subroadbed.

Paul, It is my understanding that the nickle/silver “O” track is suitable for use outdoors but your loco’s and rolling stock would have to be taken inside when not in use or during inclement weather. I don’t believe any of the current “O” structures can be left outside either, good excuse to do your own scratch building.

Somehow I don’t think that either FJ&G or Bert & Mary Poppins have layouts. I myself only have a 4x8 train table with a loop and figure 8 to run a couple of trains on, but I work on it as much as time and money allows.

More off than on trying to get a layout started in my bedroom. I think I have a design that gets maximum use of square foot and still be able to get to the window if there is a fire. Someday my own house, someday.

I have a layout… sort of. I started building the benchwork in '97. As of this writing it is STILL in the undecorated plywood stage. Not too long after it reached the stage that it’s in, the prewar bug bit… so my original plans got changed. Between that and all the personal distractions that have been going on in my life, I haven’t made any more progress on it. Maybe this year it will get finished. [sigh]

Well, I had hoped to attach a main line to the parimeter walls of my living room this year, a few feet below the ceiling, with part of my income tax return, but the money ended up being spent on computer junk instead.

To make matters worse, my annual Christmas tree layout no longer has sufficient space, due to the above mentioned computer junk…[:(!]

Here’s to hoping I win the lotto sometime soon…

No Layout yet ! Hope to have one someday…keith

Anyone got any feel for RealTrax resistance to outdoor humidity? I have a porch with a roof, but no wall on one side. I am thinking about putting something out there so I can go bigger than a pool table.

I know that FJ&G has a layout. A model of Abo canyon, as I recall.

I, sadly, only get occasional use of the dining room table. Now is not one of those occasions, though I did have some FasTrack set up on it up until Saturday morning.

Such is life.

Tony

No layout. Our trains run on the floor and will for the time being. Floor running is ideal for making different track plans without having to worry about table size constraints.
