Who goes first?

I found this scarey pic…

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=92508

The caption says that the road crossing is a four-way stop… so, not having driven in the US, my question is "Who gets to go first at a four-way stop?

Anyone want to suggest what happened next… the caption suggests that both “vehicles” were rolling…

Nice picture.

The stop signs apply to the autos, not the trains.

In the US, the first vehicle to stop has the right to proceed first. When two or more vehicles stop at the same time, the vehicle to the right goes first. All these “rights” are superceeded by 1) trains and 2) the other driver’s willingness to grant YOU the right-of-way! You may be ‘entitled’ to the right-of-way, but until the other driver GIVES it to you, you don’t have it!

Hope that guy moves pretty quick!

Darrell, rightly quiet…for now

What DGWINUP said… The driver of that car is a complete moron. I’ve never understood why people are in such a *** hurry that they have to beat the train…

Jeff

Another Louisianan on the way to the Dome in New Orleansto weather out the huricane, or is it Saturn on a shingle for the body shop to sort out?
Will … he was right, dead right?

No…Who’s ON first. I don’t knows on second…Third base.

This is why street running is dissapearing…Idiots that get hit every time they back out of their driveway…
Matthew

Do you think this might be an extreme test of the Saturn’s dent resistant doors?

What a maroon. Can you say twisted metal and flashing lights.

At any grade crossing, the trains have the right of way.

At a stop sign, the vehicle arriving first has right of way. If two or more vehicles stop at the same time the one to the right goes first. However, most of the time, who ever has the most guts goes.

Nick

This is proof of Darwin’s Theory of natural selection.

Has anyone thought that MAYBE the train was actually stopped??? Unless the photographer can confirm, perhaps we should give the car driver the benefit of the doubt. Or was the train backing up or barely moving? The caption is kind of vague on if the train was actually moving or not! Please don’t jump to conclusions.

A stopped train is quite likely in this pic, or it’s only going about 5mph, but even at that speed I’d bet some yaboo would find a way to get hit…

StillGrande:
Saturn has never claimed their dent resistent doors are attached to crush-proof frames.

It could also be a telephoto shot and the separation a LOT more than it appears. Even if the train is that close it is probably only doing 5MPH or so and it doesn’t appear he is in jeopardy to me. I’d do the same thing under those circumstances

Say, I think that’s me behind the wheel ! !

Am I riding shotgun?

What fun is that?

Kinda ruins the whole thread.

My wife has the same color Saturn and while my car has been in the shop I’ve been driving it. I’m going to email it to her and tell her it was me driving.

Why? It could equally be said that it’s part of God’s grand design for the universe.

After all, a train is the 4th (Iron) Horseman of the Apocalypse. [:D]

War, Plague, Pestilence, Union Pacific.

And “Railroad Crossing” is the Seventh Sign.

However, the picture would be funnier if the locomotive number were 666.

Andre

I thought the answer about who gets to go first was the pickup truck with the biggest gun rack in the rear window. [:D]

note that the doors are dent resistant . that doesn’t mean you can run a loco into them and not get any dents [:D]

Who’s on first base…
What’s the guy’s name on first base…
What’s the guy’s name on second base…
I don’t know…
Third base!
[:D]

And don’t forget, Today is pitching, and Tomorrow is catching. I Don’t Give a Darn is the shortstop.[:D]
