Who has RAIL-OPS?

Looked it up on the internet and thinking of ordering the pro version.

I have more than enough rolling stock to make it worth the price IF it works well.

Big thing is the CTC feature. I have Panel Pro and looked at the other CTC programs BUT, this looks like it does more than just the CTC.

Feedback please.

George,

I own the version of RailOp that you mention, but unfortunately I can’t give you a first-hand opinion. The reason for this is that my layout is still under construction - I have yet to begin my third level which will represent the terminus of New Orleans. Therefore I have not had a formal operating session in the 5+ years I have been building my current MA&G. I can, however, recommend the RailOp Yahoo Group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RailOp/?yguid=229563143. Lots of great information and help with troubleshooting.

My initial attraction to the program was having automated switchlists which eliminated the cumbersome car card & waybill system which I have used in the past. You can view examples of the computer-generated paperwork on their website, which you have probably already seen.

One last neat thing is that you will receive program updates by e-mail as they become available.

Hope this helps!

You mean the RailOp software available here? http://www.railop.com

I’m not sure why you would be comparing it to PanelPro. Unless RailOp has changed since I downloaded and evaluated the demo, it was a switch list generator, not a layout control/automation package.

Not to knock it, it’s arguably the best switchlist software on the market. But unless something’s changed, it’s purpose is entirely different than PanelPro’s.

Steve

That was the information I was looking for. I need to RE-READ the information. Sometimes with new programs I have BLINDERS and do not see the forrest for the trees. Thank you.

Ah, okay. I haven’t looked at RailOp in a while, and now that it has a new owner, I thought that maybe I had missed something. It wouldn’t have been the first time…[:D]

Steve, is is as you thought it was. Have a test copy to play with. A long learing curve may be in my future.

Have fun with it! Some time ago, I got demos for several of the more popular switchlist generators and tried them all out. RailOp seemed to be the best of the bunch, in my opinion anyway. If you’re not already aware, they have a Yahoo group that gets fairly active when someone posts a question or problem: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RailOp/

Unfortunately, between a major layout teardown/rebuild and a few other things, operating has been more or less on hold so I never bought it. [:(]
