I started thinking about how many people I have met in person from the forum over the last two years. They are:
Chief Eagles visited my layout
Tom and Spankybird (a bird not a person)
Tom from Jamestown, NY
Keith who lives down the block from Tom and Spankybird
CSX John who I just visited in NE Ohio
Chuck who lives on Blueberry Hill and visited my layout
Dave who owns DM&M Railroad Company
No one yet but at least two people here are from my 'hood, more or less! I’m hoping to meet some of y’all eventually.
My biggest investment in time and money has been motorcycles, I’ve been posting stories and advice on that subject since before there was a WWW - phone in bulletin boards if anyone ever remembers THEM at a scorching 300 baud on a home built modem using a Timex-Sinclair! - and I met quite a few chaps and one woman since most of us are long distance riders.
Generally speaking I found that those who on the bulletin boards/forums stayed the course, didnt ‘flame’ people, had a sense of humour and weren’t BS artists or loonies, were invariably decent people in the flesh. If it weren’t for the Web one would probably never ‘meet’ so many nice folks interested in the same things as oneself.
As one gets older its about the only way one has to encounter new friends and I, for one, would be greatly diminished were it not for this opportunity.

We have talked to Chief many times on the phone but he is very afraid to come to The heart of OTTS Land No grits or sweet tea. Well we might find some sweet tea for him if he ever comes this far north.
I met Elliot (Big_Boy_4005) and Tammy (Big_Girl_4005) in the summer of 2004 when my family went on a trip to Minneapolis-St. Paul. Had a wonderful time visiting them!
I’d love to meet more of you, but, unfortunately, I live quite far away from most of the guys here (another country, in fact). I do get down to the States now and then, so I might meet more of you yet.
I Have met Tom & Spankybird,CSXJohn,Weldman87,Buckeye,GregM,Boneheadbassboy,Eirefireman,and have Talked to the Chief,Jim A,& CSXJohn on the Phone also and its a pleasure to get to know each and everyone one of you & we hope to see even more of you folks after the museum layout is up & running in Mentor, Ohio. Dave- You’ll have to come on up to Ohio sometime & You’ll meet quite a few of the OTTS Members. Take Care all.
No one yet, they don’t let me get out of here. Just kidding. I actually am trying to make plans to meet the Chief in March. I love Georgia, and would not move away, but we don’t have any train stores down this way. I also hope to catch up with some of the guys in the surrounding area, Dr. John, etc. Anyway, it is a great forum with lots of humor and common interests.
Dennis
I havent met anyone yet, since im still new to this forum, but I am hoping to meet Spankybird in Ohio soon…really sucks I wont be able to go to the meeting this weekend thanks to always being short on funds to make the drive out there [:(!]. But I do plan to visit my dad in Cleveland this month, so maybe at that time.
