If it has to be in NS paint, make it an SD70M-2, SD80MAC or a high hood SD40-2. Just please no more Crash 9’s.[xx(] On a recent trip to the NS Chicago line most of the trains I saw had those darn things leading. Luckily, I did catch several SD70M-2’s and a few high hoods. I’m not saying I hate 9-40CW’s, but I’d rather see other power.
Give me a C40-9w (or better yet) a GEVO any day of the week. Those 70M-2s stink, the doors don’t shut right, they are rough, and they are LOUD. Can’t even hear yourself think in one.
I love widenose GE’s whatever their flavor may be. The widenose to me looks nicer than the Spartan cab. Do I really care whether it’s EMD/GE? Nope…as long as it’s a widenose I’m happy! Especially if it’s CNW or ex-CNW!
I pass Landers twice a day on my ride to and from work and the majority of the power that I see there is C40-9W/ES40DC’s. Various SD70 models also turn up, plus occasional foreign power. I like them, but their sheer numbers tend to lessen any variety. By the way, NS is the only owner of C40-9/C40-9W’s.
Atmo check out http://www.thedieselshop.us/CSX.HTML and note that the first three CSX C44s are classed as Dash 8s and the remaining 50 are pure Dash 9s. CSX #9000-9002 were transitional models from the Dash 8 to Dash 9 Series of locomotives.
hmmm. i didnt know CSX had them. alrightty then. boy do i ever need to go fan on a CSX line…with a hard hat on. cant have those derailments ram into me
The NS SD70M-2s are a refreshing sight on the ex-NYC Chicago line. If you lived here, you would hate the C40-9W’s too! Man…they’re all you see on this line! The mid to late '90s had to be the best years for locomotive spotting around here. Conrail had a nice variety of there own locos along with tons of foreign run through power. You never knew what you’d see. Then NS took over with their 9W’s and that was that. Things are starting to get more interesting now though.
