Are there any manufacturers who make authentic and operating observation end of train "neon’ name signs? I’m looking for an HO scale Union Pacific “City of Los Angeles” that could work off DCC or, if necessary, another power source (battery maybe??) I’ve looked in the Walthers catalog, but just cannot find them. I once saw an ATSF lighted drum for the Super Chief on a passenger car, but did not find out who made them. Thanks. JRP
It’s called a Drumhead, and they are made by Tomar Industires.
They have a big list, but many are out of stock at Walthers
I usually order from Tomar directly. They’re great people to deal with and their shipping is very prompt. Get on their website and they have an enormous supply and variety of passenger train lit drumheads.

I used a Tomar drumhead on the back of my Twin Cities Zephyr obs that I detailed. I cut a hole in the back of the obs to recess the box into the car. Otherwise it would have stuck out too far for my taste. Though that may be apropriate for some prototypes.
The lettering seems to disapear when lit in the photo, but it’s not that way in person.
