I’m considering adding an “027” gauge Train camera (color video) to my layout.
What train cameras are available and is there a particular manufacturer’s model that is better than another.
I understand that Lionel offered a Black & White camera car some years ago, but it was plagued with video noise (static) when viewed on the TV / monitor.
Is it true that one must purchase the camera first, and install it in a railroad car of your choice? Or, is there a company that will sell you a railroad car of your choice (i.e. railroad type… Pennsylvania, New York Central, Sante Fe) and install it for you?
I would appreciate any information (web sites, magazines, books) on the various model railroad “Train cameras” available.
Thanks.

I don’t think you’ll find much help in this forum, you might try CLASSIC TOY TRAINS forum.[:)] Sorry
Alan H - in case you have not had an answer yet, I will contribute from personal knowledge. You can build your own using the X-10 camera and any sacrifical flat car . It can be powered from the track by adding rollers on each truck, and wiring to the onboard power supply. A circuit diagram can be found on the web. Basically, it uses a capacitor and voltage regulator to take your track power to a constant 12v for best camera operation.
Alternately, buying a ready made from K-Line isa great way to go, if you have any o-gauge track. There camera costs about $200 street price, with a list price of about $260. It uses the X-10 camera, but is a very refined and reliable version, on a finished flat car. I highly recommend it, and I have no business relationship to K-Line whatsoever. I built my own and it works, but not quite as well as K-Line.
Either way, enjoy, as the kids and adults both love the trackside views as a novelty
