Who Makes This Auto ....

Grab your March 2008 issue of MR and turn to page 64. At the bottom of the page, there appears to be a really nice late 60’s red Chevy ( looks like a Mini Metals car ). Who makes this ? - it looks really nice !!! I don’t see it listed anywhere (?)

Mark.

It looks very much like a 65-66 Chevrolet 2 door hardtop…

The car in question is a Chevy Impala 65-68, note the tail lights. Still kinda hard to get exact year for a picture of a HO scale car in MR. But it’s a Impala for sure.

Based on the tail-lights, it’s a '65 …

… still, who makes it ???

Mark.

At first glance I thought it was a Mini metals but they did the '62.I wonder if it’s a wiking model.Although I remeber that about ten years ago Monagram made asmall run of HO cars most were modern 87 Buicks and firebirds but they did do a couple 1960’s cars.Could be a Japanese manufacturer that didn’t get released over here as well.

Classic Metal Works lists one, but their site seams to be down.

Yep thats what it is, I use to have a red 65 Impalla SS.

Here is a close-up of the car on page 64 of the Mar 2008 MR:

Man, check out the perfect registration of those half-tone dots !!! [(-D]

Ok - we’ve all determined WHAT it is … but no one has been able to determine WHO makes it ??? Judging by the separate door mirrors and fine detailed paint-work, it’s not a cheapie plastic job. Mini Metals has a 58 / 62 / 78 full size Chevy, so this would be feasable for them to do, but I see no listing of it.

A pre-production item that was purposely placed in a noticeable position in TWO pictures just to entice us ???

Mark.

Classic metal Works makes a 1/24 scale 65 Chev Impala. I suppose it could be a sneak preview of a 1/87 scale version.

[(-D][(-D]You must be a printer too! [;)]

I used digital noise reduction to try and smooth out the dots but there are lots left…

here is before…

and after…

This is a post from jmikebudde2001 on the 87scalecars Yahoo forum on the same subject.

Re: [87scalecars] New Model Railroader
I haven’t seen the MR yet, but if the guy’s name is Hitomi, I know him.
He and a friend made those themselves.

Try a 2->5 radius gausian blur followed by an unsharpen mask. That usually works nicely for me.
