Can someone tell me who makes the church in this picture I found posted in the gallery? I tried to post the picture right in this post but it came out way, way too big and I couldnt get it work. Had to delete the whole thing and just give the link to the photo in the gallery. I originally was thinking scratchbuild but boy when you look at the picture close by clicking on it, there sure are a lot of small details that would be very difficult for a scratchbuilder to acclomplish.
Its German made for sure. My first choice would be Vollmer. Or maybe Kibri or Faller. It might be scratchbuilt out of more than one kit. Would love to know myself…
The “Cathedral” kit by Vollmer has a single tall spire which matches the spires in the photo. It’s a much smaller structure, though, and lacks the turret in the rear.
Been serching for about an hour now since I posted this and I found what appears to be the start of how this church was built. Looks like you guys were right. Its a kitbashed Vollmer kit and a scratchbuilt roof. Tried searching Walthers the other night when I first found this photo using the keyword Church. Guess I should have tried Cathedral as well.
This photo appeared in the “Magic of Model Railroading” section of the Walthers sourcebook in (I believe) 2007. I have them all since 2000 in a loose leaf binder. The following description accompanied the photo:
Models and photo by Vic Smith, Bridgeton, Missouri
“Six pm and the bells of the cathedral chime across the city, calling the congregation to the evening service. Sister Mary waits at the door to greet the churchgoers, but they’re stopped at the crossing by the evening freight. At the local watering hole, a group of bikers are enjoying burgers and beer while they watch the train chug through downtown. The loco was kitbashed by Jim Napoli from several kits. Vic kitbashed a Vollmer model for the cathedral, and the bar is from Downtown Deco.”
