I tried the local hobby shop to see if they could order it. They spent 2 days trying to find it. They said it might be out of production. I would like to have it to get some ideas about painting my Sunset 9000 class 4-12-2.
The Model Railroader Logo is a dead givaway.
What book?
If you don’t mind using eBay, try using their “I-want-it-now” feature. I’ve gotten a few rare MRR items (usually within a week or two) by doing that.
Did Kalmbach confirm that it is out of print?
P.S. Here is a current eBay auction for a copy of that book:

Kalmbach Makes this book. I don’t know if they sell it on there web site or not, but I’m pretty sure they do still sell it, as I’ve seen it in model railroad a few times. It does ahve a different cover though.

I just read an article in the August 2002 MR–the cover article actually. It gives a very detailed techniques for weathering a big steamer. If you ordered the .pdf from this site, you’d be right on the money.
same author, slightly changed title

My local store told me that he would have to order $100.00 or more to order directly from Kalmbach. He also told me that it might be discontinued. I bid on the one on Ebay. I also saw the other book but wasn’t sure if it was the same.

I have that book, not bad, but leaves you wanting more.
