I just came across this auction. A collection of Lionel vintage parts of all kinds. Starting bid is only $650,000.00 and for that you get 2.5 trailers full of Lionel parts from the 1920s - 1990s. Madison Hardware redux!
Let’s see, Frank53 needed a new axle for his steamer. Jerry needs a little bit of everything to stock up his PW repair biz. I need a new smoke unit for a 4-4-2 . . .
a need a new boiler front rim for a 726 bershire, a couple of porthole style windows for my 2344’s and I could use axles and wheel sets for my 2026. I also want a quieter e-unit for a 621 switcher, and I could use a few #22 switch assemblies.
hey i will chip in as long as I get a 259e boiler front, a 2025 boiler front, link pack, and trailing wheels, and a new e-unit for my 221 NYC, and 2 of every part for the locos I have so I can fix them if needed in the future
My wild guess is that this man has fallen off a roof straight on his head…
No matter how much parts he has, or what kind of trains he has…
A man owning 650.000 dollars doesn’t buy secondhand junk…
I’ll chip in! I call the dad’s collection of prewar trains!
The guy says he will pay half the price of a plane ticket, plus the full cost of one night’s stay at a hotel. Why don’t we all head down there? I wouldn’t mind a trip to Chicago to check out some toy trains. Who’s coming with me?
Wonder how many complete locos are there in kit form…
Seriously, I think Daan is right - I can’t see anyone paying $650,000 for a pile of train parts. Even the bigger repair operations don’t have that kind of money. To put it in perspective, you could buy three Aston Martin DB9s for the same money, or a sizable house. Having said that, I wouldn’t mind the chance to wander through there!
Hmmmm…the last time I went to Chicago(about 5 years ago), round trip tickets from Louisville were $100 with Southwest. They can’t have gone up that much since then. I could afford $50 to go and check it out. Heck, I’d be glad to chip into buying part of it. We would only need 650 forum members at $100 each, or, even better, 6500 at $10 each. Who wants to start recruiting? [:)][:)]
Traditional Hobbies is a hobby shop located in Downers Grove, IL, just west of Clarendon Hills. Coincidence, or is this yet another hobby shop closing its doors?
