Why are my trains the same scale but one is bigger compared to the other?

Hello There,

I recently brought two locomotives for my first ever g scale railroad. These comprised of A Bachmann Mogul 2-6-0 Midwest mining quarry co. This arrived first and I loved playing with it in my room. I brought some aristocraft track and a controller. The mogul was 1:20:3 scale. I then brought a GE 45 tonne Bachmann spectrum Locomotive Midwest mining quarry co. It arrived and i put it on the track next to my steamer and it looks huge yet it is still 1:20:3 scale. Please can someone tell me what is wrong or why it is like this…

Many thanks,

Jake [:D]

The Mogul 2-6-0 is modeled after a 3 ft prototype made in 1876. Most narrow gauge engines were much smaller than standard gauge. Also engines of the 1870’s were much smaller than engines of the mid 1900’s.

WOW you got the Bachmann Alpha and Omega of scale!

OK, BOTH technically are 1/20.3 scale however…

The Industrial Mogul (Indy for short) is based on what basicly was a plantation locomotive and the original had a cab barely tall enough to stand it, its actually a retooling of the older 2-4-2 Columbia, which was based on a Hawaiian suger cane plantation engine so it looks very diminuative because the original WAS very diminuative.

The 44 ton Diesel (Dizzy for short) is huge simply because the prototype was simply a standard gauge dismal with narrow gauge trucks under it. Bit of an oversight there on B’manns part as it endind up looking enormous next to the rest of there line. Indeed to very best versions of this engine I have seen have been regauged back to standard gauge to run of F scale track, these engines look Spot On for that scale track.

Bantaworks used to sell a kit to recab the Indy with a more proper sized 1/20 scale cab, but stopped selling them due to poor sales (I guess) however they crop up on ebay from time to time. I got one their, and am just waiting to find time to recab my Indy. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. That has really sorted my problem out!

[#welcome] sounds like you go yourself in a pickel , call your vender and ask if you can return your 45 tonner or exchange it for something differant.

Keep the 45 tonner - it’s a great runner.

If you don’t like the size, just bash it to something else…
