Why buffers on Acela trainsets?

Why are the buffers still on the Acela trainsets? Weren’t they significantly designed for Amtrak’s specifications? Why not leave the buffers out of manufacturing and save some money? Do you think they still have the shock absorber and retraction assemblies in them? AEM-7 doesn’t have them and neither does HHP-8.

They don’t have buffers (in the European sense) - see Crash Pads
