Why did UP paint Missouri Pacific on the Armor yellow units?

After 1982 when the MoPac was swallowed by the UP, why did UP continue to paint Missouri Pacific on alot of there engines yet retain the armor yellow? Was there a legal issue here? I persoanlly think the UP should have stuck with the MoPac blue scheme, but we can all dream cant we? I am sure someone know the answer to my question??

For a while until 1986, UP and MP were two seperate railroads owned by UP Corp. Then UP Corp. decided it would be better money wise to just have one railroad, so of course UP was picked to swallow MoPac. The yellow MP units was just like SSW owned by SP, and all of it’s painted in whatever scheme(except SPSF)SP was painting their engines in. The steam engines were all SSW specs, and looked much difderent than any SP engine.

From a cost standpoint, it was cheaper to paint a locomotive MP solid blue of one color compared to the yellow, red & gray of UP. The old Mopac engs were sharp to look at and I miss not seeing them out on the rails anymore.

The correct spelling would be Armour.

Did UP name their yellow after the meatpacker, to recognize a good customer?

Another possibilty is that because of insurance and equipment leasing issues, the engines in question had to maintain their MoPac identity.

So then was it a merger or did UP Corp buy the MoPac outright?

What difference does it make to anyone other than MP railfans?
