Why do I have to right click and click show pictures to see pics?

Does anyone else have to right click, and click “show picture” or “view images”?
A lot of the pictures posted here show up as a picture address until I do the right click thing.
OR, Is it my anti virus program?

Hope someone can help. Thanks. [sigh]

Not me. I use Firefox 3.0 browser. No issues.

I suspect it my be how your browser is set up.

How about some details of your Operating System and browser.

Your question is like the guy who says, my train does not work. What is wrong?

An example of a thread where this is happening would also help, so we can compare what our systems are doing. I am using IE9 have no issues with this, at least not in the threads I have been following.

Lee:

When I would post on this forum and use the addresses on Photobucket to post a picture all I would send to folks is the address. This occurs when you left click on one of the addresses under the picture, copy it with a right click then paste it on the forum.

These are two examples of the same picture.

Now, if I take the same picture and left double left click on the picture to enlarge it, then right click and copy, then go to the forum, left click on edit above then paste it to the forum you will see the picture instead.

This is the same picture as the addresses above. It is my opinion it is the sender not you or your computer.

Hope that helps,

I see this sometime, too. As an example, I can’t see your posted picture (simon1966) on the first page of the Show Me Something thread for this month. I’m at work now, and I’ve tried both IE8 (stuck with it) and Firefox. I can see other pictures fine.

Normally, I put up pictures the old-fashioned way, by typing in the img tags around the URL. Are you doing that, or are you using the thread software GUI to insert images?

The right-click (context menu) mouse button does do more with Mozilla Firefox than it does for M$ Internet Explorer – This can be quite irritating for the handful of websites that still cater to M$ standards instead of global internet standards once you get accustomed to Firefox’s extensible programming.

Curious. I just copy and paste the forum tag from the photo host. It automatically creates the img tags with the [ parentheses. It looks exactly the same as if I had typed the entire URL for the photo location manually. I have 2 PC’s here one with IE8 and one with IE9 and that image on page 1 of the Show me thread displays just fine in both.

I wonder if something else is going on, for instance security/firewall type software blocking content from certain sites resulting in the failure to display?

OK Guys

I am using Windows 7 on PC and Fire Fox, recent edition (six months old). Some pictures will fail to appear until I do the right click on all of the threads here. The “Show me” thread has had maybe one out of five that fail.
Some times the address is not high lighted but when I right click and click show image, the image then shows up.
Others show the boxed address and a red X at the beginning of the box. This will also show if I right click show image. Now when I go back through the thread the pictures are there. Humm, must be my Anti Virus
I am trying to decide if it’s my soft ware or the way the pictures are posted.

My computer skills are minimal, we didn’t have computers seventy years ago, like the kids today start with.

Thanks for the help.

Lee

The ones that you have to click on, and the ones that don;t work no matter what - what are the URLs? It sounds like some setting you have is blocking an otherwise legitimate site or two.

None seventy years ago? I’m 75 and had a computer in grade school yet. It went something like this: 1+ 1=2. Written on a sheet of lined paper with a pencil. Course my pencil always need sharpening.[:o)]

Actually I’d rather use the pencil -or- pen to do my math, keeps the ole brain working.

To your question, I run IE8 and have no problem with the pics depending how the poster applies it.

Could be the way your browser is set?

Above smiley ( Shrugging ) was “left” clicked on IMG code ( PhotoBucket ) Then pasted here.

All I do is click the IMG line in the dialog box under the photo I want on my photobucket account and then click where I want to post it

I suspect you might be having issues with the anti-malware stuff on your computer…seen that before…check your security settings.

I get the same thing from time to time in the WPF threads and my system is less than 2 years old, and I’m using Firefox 6.0.2.

I’ve noticed that it happens most frequently with photobucket images, and I think what is happening is that the images are ‘timing out’. The WPF threads take some time to download (even on broadband) and I believe that the pages are taking longer to render than photobucket and other services allow for, so the full image isn’t sent/downloaded, leaving the html link unrendered.

It’s more technical than that, but that is essentially what seems to be going on.

When this happens, I just right-click the link and choose “reload image” and they almost always come up fine then.

I keep meaning to experiment with other browsers to compare, but the WPF threads always draw me in and I forget. [:D]

I’ve been using a newer Web browser “Chrome” for about a year with good success! Chrome avoids many of the issues of other web browsers. Downloads are much faster too. So far I haven’t needed to use any add-ons or whach-a ma-gimics to make it work! I seem to get pictures and photos automatically. -Just a thought.

I find Internet Explorer 9 is buggy. Get Mozilla Firefox, much more consistent.
