Why do we "bash" Atlas turnouts?

I know this thread may upset some, but my intention is not that, But, every time Atlas Code 100 turnouts are mentioned the “haters” of them come out in multitudes. For a beginner, they are a good place to start. Some say they are not protypically! To each his own opinion. But for a company that has been in business for quite a while and they make their product very accessible in the marketplace. Why continue keep bashing them?

What does thou thinkest?

Where is this bashing? I dont see it. Could you link to some posts?

Most people in the hobby stores that I visit state that they are not prototypical.

Every time I read on this board about the Atlas turnout the quick response comes back to get rid of them and get a Peco.

Maybe David the word, “bashing” is too strong of a word, but they are discounting them because they are protypically in the eyes of the wiriter and are not dependbale operationally. That is only what I have discerned. It is howveer my preception of what people think of Atlas turnouts. As the quote states, preception is reality.

They worked fine for me for years. Probably the huge spike detail and old style point rail rivets had something to do with it.

…or the out of gauge gaurd rails and rivots at the points…

European Prototype Pecos are also out of gauge and have their issues too…

I am still trying to figure out where the OP is coming from.

the last “bashing” thread got deleted.

While I can’t cite any specific thread, I know that I have read many less than complimentary comments about Atlas Snap-Switches, if those are what the OP is refering to.

And Yes, We all probably know what happened to the last “Bashing” thread, so Hurry up and chime in, if you have anything to say, or it may end up “Speak Now, or Forever Hold your Peace”

I have fond memories of Atlas turnouts from my HO days. I used them on my first 2 layouts. Then bought some for my first O layout - not the ones they make today, but the ones they came out with in the 70’s. They worked well for me.

Enjoy

Let’s put away any notions of “bashing” for the foreseeable future. Enough already!
