I come here for the general contact with other modelers and to get ideas for my own modeling. Of course the stars help. [:D]
Ron
A combo of the above. I have found that this forum is really helpful
I think stars are pretty useless and the reply count only says whos been here longer.
A combo of all of the above. Mostly for community. I need more contact with other people. Some times I have questions and need advice from other modelers. Plus I like to help people out whenever I can. The exchange of information and ideas is awesome. I like to talk “railroad” and have some one understand what I’m saying! I wish I got turned onto this internet forum thing sooner.
But it’s kinda hard for me to “show off” with out a digital cambra.
And yes, the stars do make me feel a little better about myself. Is that really so wrong? [:D]
Since I’ve become dissabled I don’t get out much and enjoy the company of other model railroaders. I also try to answer questions and do learn from others here.
I voted some combination of the above
because I hope to show off my skills later,
The people here enjoy my favourite magazine, my preferred pastime and have a computer to get here. What could be a more comfortable relaxing place to visit. The pleasure of being among so many kindred spirits with great ideas, opinions and answers but best of all great listeners who have never complained when I fart.
I don’t have time to particpate in a model rail club so this is, to me, a virtual MR Club, and I enjoy the chat, banter and ideas and opinions of kindred spirits. I appreciate the fact that we can express our own opinion without being flamed and that it is pretty much 100% model trains. MR in the mail each month is the icing on the cake.
I figure why waste 30 + years of experience in this hobby. I have actually done things in this hobby that most people will never do. I don’t usually ask questions seeking information, but I do read a lot of topics looking for fresh ideas. The stars are a nice perk. [swg]
I find that most questions get a large number of decent answers quickly. Occasionally, there is one or two that I can help with. If I didn’t feel that I could contribute something after many years in the hobby, I wouldn’t be here reading this forum.
Excellent source of info for me personally while at the same time, I very much enjoy being able to help modelers and railfans with information that they need.
This forum is Top Notch!
For the free beer.
The chicks here dig me too…
Oops,… wrong forum. [:I][:-^]
Actually I had pretty much stopped posting on the Trains forums.
I am active on several of the Yahoo Groups, but stopped posting on Trains forums about 2 -3 months ago when the majority of the active threads were either politcal, talking about how we should all get along or congratulating each other for having posted umpteen comments.
Really nothing to do with trains at all.
It seems to be more “on topic” lately.

I chose the combo. I may have spent hours or months researching a particular subject. If someone else is looking for the same info, I can save them time or point them in the right direction. Also the reverse is true. I have found info here that helps. Communicating with Forum members helps me to stay intrested and motivated when I’m not able to work on the layout.
In a way this is a international train club without a layout. Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a way to have M.S. Train simulator on this site and we could build virtual modules to run our simulated locomotives on.
Combo here as well. Except for the stars.
Gordon
'cause I’m at work now and it passes the time better talk’in about my favorite subject. then where i’d rather be…—in my train room work’in on the trains!—…actually it was for the free beer but somebody beat me to it…we need to have a crawfish boil or something to go with it…
Some combination of the above definatly this is a great forum
The combination thing. I’m home all day now and having found so many people who are into this hobby after about 35 years of being a lone wolf is very satisfying. But you all are cutting into my modeling big time!
I told my wife recently that model railroading doesn’t seem to my hobby anymore. It’s been replaced by READING about model railroading! I’ve turned into a “mouse click” modeler. Two edged sword here…
At one time i frequented Train Orders a lot. They went to a subscription based scheme that seemed a little expensive. I liked the photo section and used it all the time. The forums were so so but had good info i just had to dig. The forums are better here and I get many of my photos from Fallen-Flags. I even like the web cam here a lttle better. I understand it takes money to support a website but there are those that have other ways than charging a subscription for usage. Most of the same stuff I can get for free or by supporting the website owner in other ways like this site.

Not necessarily. I have been coming to this site nearly every day since it began and only have 2 stars. That’s because I’m not post happy or star happy and only chime in when I have something relevant and worthwhile to contribute.
Ron
I post questions, try to answer questions, and I like talking to other modelers. This forum is really my only connection to other modelers. I know there must be several others in my area, but I don’t know who they are, so for now a spend my time here.
