Please they are slow enough running forward!
That’s why the CBQ stopped ordering the Noses that apperaed on the 1st 9 Zephyr’s.
A California politician proposed legislation to end push-pull operation of passenger trains in California for “safety” reasons. i wonder if his bill would apply to Amtrak operated trains?
There’s one other reason. IN a locomotive, the engineer at least has some room to move around, or at least shif around in his seat. (I’ve seen a genesis cab before.) In a cabcar, on a long haul trip, it would be like locking the engineer in a closet. For hours at a time. It’s uncomfortable (the unions would take issue) and also dangerous - a engineer who is busy thinking constantly about how cramed into this small space he will be for the next six hours is not fully concentrating on watching signals and handling the train.
Just out of curiosity, how many people are in the cab of an Amtrak train at any given time?
This bill may well be ruled unconstitutional as state regulation of interstate commerce, which is barred by the commerce clause of the Constitution.
The only California trains now operated push-pull are inside California.
I’m not a lawyer, I have trouble figuring how regulating trains that operate only intra state can be covered as inter state commerce.
Not to say that one cannot make an argument that they are inter state commerce, just mentioning that I’m not familiar with the law that one would use to justify it.
As is the case of the FEC which is wholly with in the state of Florida they are engaged in moving freight bound for other states. The same could be said of passengers if they are bound for other states. It just takes a few people bound for another state to be considered interstate as opposed to intrastate. [2c] As always ENJOY
Maybe because they can’t find the reverser.[8D]
