That is crazy! I think I will take the $14 that is on Ebay now.

All I know I would never bid on a car that was put on it’s roof for a picture.

I wonder how much seller expected to get for it, or was it just a ploy to keep people bidding up on the item. After this seller always can offer second chance offer to highest bidder, but bidder is not obligated to buy.

I have a 2005 edition of one of the Greenburg Lionel Train pocket guides. If I am interpreting the pricing correctly the estimated selling price (2005) for one of those is $34 in “new” condition.

Does the shipping seem a little steep to you guys?

Ed

Ed,

I’m guessing that S&H includes it being insured by Lloyds of London.

As far as the extravagant price: Beauty (and worth) are in the eye of the beholder when it comes to auctions.

Tom

I dunno, if you can go $14,500+ for a boxcar, then $29.95 shouldn’t be much of a problem.

After all the seller has to make some money somewhere on this deal since he’s letting the car go so cheap.[(-D]

Enjoy

Paul

You forgot to read the details. It comes with gold nuggets stuffed inside!

The last bidder bid $14,600.00 and the seller didn’t take it, guess he doesn’t pay attention to the present world economic situation. Hopefully this is a joke.

I just wonder how many of his friends or relatives he had bidding on this, the price and shipping dont add up if it s so valuable shipping would be alot higher to prevent damage or it should be a local pickup. What can you say its E BAY LOL, Jim.

Welcome to the wacky world of Lionel…

That car is at least 50 years old and as such its collectible Lionel.

Now 10 people bid on that car so apparently it has a collectors price tag as a rare car in mint condition…

Is it worth $14,000.00 I have no idea…

I dunno.

The listing shows as sold, “but you can find more like it below” and the highest priced one there is $140-something.

They seem to be the 6464 Rutland car…some with the boxes. Must be SOME kind of difference or somebody certainly has a lot more money than I do to throw away on that RRCAr!!!

Maybe it is made of gold or silver?

Simple. Someone bid on it that’s why.

If it’s rare enough and in demand then the price is right. Might be crazy to us but so is collecting numerous other things. The value of an item is what people are willing to pay for it.

Very rare car with BOX! Many fakes. This car is real.

The seller told me that it was handmade by Volfer Tucheyn. He is going to email me back with the details. I’ll post when he answers. I doubt very much if he has people bidding on it. Say someone made a mistake and bid over his reserve.

SOLD

Then he would be facing a huge sellers fee. There is no way around that. Think about it.

I think P.T. Barnum pretty well summed it up…“There’s a sucker born every minute…” Just my [2c]

So I misspoke! Take me to court and sue me why don’tcha! CORRECTION: It says “BIDDING has ended”…NOT “SOLD” I misspoke!

People sell expensive things on Ebay, so they MUST pay a Huge seller fee…they know that going in…

Still insane. ANd that’s a mid 50’s product? It has what look like pre-war couplers and crappy stamped trucks. The 1948 Scout set I have from my Dad has nicer trucks.

So what is suggested is that you set a huge reserve that no one will meet. Then the seller contacts the highest bidder off line to negotiate and avoid the fees?
