I was using metal polish with intent to No-Ox-ID my fleet later, and after polishing up my first unit I decided to take a macro photo to see exactly how baby-butt-smooth my wheels now were.
BIG MISTAKE.
On the left is polished…on the right is ‘clean’.
Yeesh.
Just like seeing a needle under magnification. What you think would be a mirror-like spear more resembles a gnawed metal stick. Ah well, good reason to appreciate the trains from a suitable distance. Preferably with wine.

Maybe not b-b smooth, but the one on the left IS smoother. While there’s still some big grooves, the high spots are quite polished. So I think it will pick up less “****”. A more refined polishing process would get the one on the left with a mirror finish. Whether it’s worth your while is your choice–I doubt I’d go much farther.
