Wi-Fi On Commuter Trains

Recently, Metra has been exploring various methods of providing reliable Wi-Fi service on their commuter trains into and out of Chicago, but they don’t seem to be able to come up with a cost-effective way of doing it. They don’t want to invest in installing a system that could be obsoleted by new technology in just a few years.

My question is, has any North American carrier managed to provide Wi-Fi service to their customers that consistently has reliability and capacity over their entire route?

Not sure about capacity, but NCTD’s Coaster has wi-fi that pretty much works between Oceanside and San Diego. Similarly, Amtrak’s Surfliner has mostly decent coverage with the exception of the stretch through San Clemente.
