WIFE SHOCKS ME!

My wife comes into my cad room and says
“HONEY, we don’t you use the WHOLE BASEMENT since we do not need the space with the new storage at the other house”
That would be 1800 sq ft, A/C space that is a constant 72 deg with humidty between 45% and 53%. I am thinking about it. At my age I don’t think I can build that big of a railroad by myself. Ah to be 20 years younger!
[:D]

Awesome! I wish my parents would say that to me

wake up dude , you’re dreaming [;)]
start working on a plan that will let you fill up the rest of the basement a bit at a time . when it starts to feel like too much work … stop!

Well… Your heart withstood the shock of hearing news like that, so you are probably in excellent health. No reason not to embark on a major building spree. [:D] On the other hand… She might want something very expendive herself… Nah! Just being cynical. I’m sure there are folks around here who would be glad to come over and work in your basement with the airconditioning given the heat (at least in the Northeast). Congratulations!

So, when you regained consciousness…did you immediately ‘save’ the file you were working on, and open a new one? [:D]

THE CATCH! Wants her 1971 XKE finished BEFORE I start on an updated plan.
These are the OTHER toys that need time also http://www.leatherique.net/neat_pictures.htm
Need to see a few (Mustang is gone)

Your wife is letting you have the whole basement. Do you have to remodel the rest of the house before you can work on the basement? My “fee” for continued work on the garage was putting down a laminated floor in our dining room. The floor was not that difficult, but I had get both of m,y son-laws down to the houise at the same time in order to help me clear the furniture out.

Two burning questions:

  1. How do you know the humidity range so precisely? I only recognize three values, OK, Dry-Winter-Nosebleed and Yuck.

  2. Is the XKE a convertible?

Hmm, G scale would fill that space rather nicely and quickly, before she changes her mind (they do that y’know). The parts are big and easy to see, too. I was lucky enough to see a G-reat indoor layout once. Wow.

No, really. Wow.

SRT.

And you get to keep the “red head” too; your life is pretty shocking I’d say!!! Your “strange rolls” pic http://www.leatherique.net/images/DSC00366.JPG reminds me of another Mustang with a Rolls powerplant - P-51 that is. Time to get building!

Well if you weren’t so danged far away, I’d surely come help with the Jag so we could get on to the REAL work of building a layout. [:D][:D]

Seems an awful lot of model railroaders are car guys, too… hmm.

Radio Shack seels a very accurate digital gauge with memory and transmitter for $39.95. Good investment

George,

Don’t be surprised. This is what elelctro-shock therapy does: It make us forget…yeah, forget…ahhhhhh…ummm…hmmm…WHY WE RESPONDED TO THIS THREAD IN THE FIRST PLACE!!

Yes i know, the MINDLESS POST we all do it, sorry but a BRAIN FART at my age does happen. I am staying with my 590 sq ft for the railroad and use the balance for a hang out for the train and car guys from the 2 clubs in the area. For now it is measue once cut twice and make sawdust. I would like SOMETHING running by Christmas of 2005.
Have a good 4th all of you.[:D]

I have the same situation and opted to try to make the railroad as near full scale and minimize the selective compression as much as possible. This means #12 and larger mainline turnouts and full size buildings. Basically I took a railroad that could fit in a 20’ x20’ area and expanded it to fill the space available. The only difference is the space between buildings and turnouts. I figure that won’t be any more difficult to maintain and should look a whole lot better with 48-60" radius curves in HO.

Good plan - the layout will find it’s own size, but dude a wife with an E-type she wants finished and a layout ? Are you sure they haven’t changed your medication ?[:D] J.R.

I will post pics of the XKE. Shoe found a good one in Ohio, 27,000 original miles. It is th 2+2 with the V12 and for her it is automatic so she can drive it. There is some minor body rust and replace all the seals, bushings and brakes. About 150 to 200 houts should do it. She bought a 1980 Vette last year, drove it once it scared her so now it is in my pile. She still has Leonard Skinners 1986 Jaguar VDP in Florida.
I boulght some wood and masonite to get started on the triain room at night. Her car will be done during the day. I just want to live long enough to run a train on this design it works great on computer.

O no, I have the mother of all head aches just thinking about that. good luck with the x-mas 2005. It’s coming soon!![}:)] better hurry[;)][yeah]

If the thought of such a project is overwhelming, think about getting some friends with various skills as a nucleus for an operating group, to help with the planning and construction, eh?

Beware wives bearing gifts… Or was it the Trojans?
