Wifey = Saint. Our RR anniversary !!

Sunday was our first wedding anniversary, on Friday my wife told me to pack an overnight bag and be ready to go by 11 a.m. Saturday.[%-)] So, we took off Saturday morning with me driving north and no idea where we’re going. After several hours we ended up at a motel in Superior Wisconsin. At this point she finally let on what was up - she had booked tickets on the North Shore Scenic Railroad’s dinner train that night, leaving the Lake Superior RR Museum (at the old Duluth Union depot) at 5 PM !! Took me totally by surprise.[:O]

We got there early enough to look around the museum (snowplows are REAL BIG up close). The trip was very good, unfortunately weather was a little cool and cloudy (but then back near the Twin Cities where we had just come from they had a tornado). Trip along former DM&IR Duluth - Two Harbors line very scenic, going right along the lake for much of the way. Dinner was Lake Superior trout, bison medallions in gravy, and wild rice with sweet potato and duck. Dessert was “chocolate oblivion” with raspberry sauce. All cooking done on the train by local top of the line restaurant’s chef and waiters/waitresses.

All told a great experience, if you ever get a chance to visit “The Depot” be sure not to miss it. [:)]

Class act. I love the museum at the depot. I have not yet taken the dinner train, but we have only been married for 49 years, so maybe later. That is a great story and I am glad you shared it. May it inspire some others.

Now that’s what I would call “Romance of the Rails”![:D] BTW Happy Anniv., may you both enjoy many more together.

All right! What a Woman! You definatly got a keeper there… And congrats on making it to your 1 Year Mark! My new bride and I will be hitting a our 6 month mark on the 22nd. Best of luck to the both of you !

What a lovely story…and a great wife.

Of course, you now owe her…and ooohhh how you owe her! [:D]

I was at “The Depot” Really cool mueseum, I wanted to do the sim, but it closed before I could go on it, Was the power the NW5?

What a great surprise! Now, a little advice… you make darned sure you do the same or better on her special day. You probably know by now what she’d really like to do or where to go so it’ll be up to you to make it happen. Over the years I’ve seen too many guys take their wives for granted. I usually see them in the newspaper after a few years of marriage… under divorce filings…

End of advice… [:)]

Dinner on the train… that’s great!

JaRRell

Motive power on the train was their chop-nose DMIR SD-18.

I will have to try to come up with something special for her. To be fair, I do try to be a good hubby - she finally had to tell to stop buying her flowers because I was getting them too often I guess. Plus in the past year or two a lot of my “model money” has gone to help out with some problems with some of her family so I guess this was kind of her way of saying thanks…and a chance to get a way from everything / everybody for a while !!

BTW we got married at the Metrodome before a Twins - White Sox game last season.

BTW the dining car we were in was NSSRR’s old GN “Lake of the Isles” diner - the same one pictured in the recent Walthers brochure as the diner to be used in their 1955 Empire Builder series.
