Yesterday I visited my LHS, Model Railway PO, and he had a shipment of Wild Cherries! He said he was suprised to get them, and would be keeping an eye out for Reel Rides as well. His price of $3.20 each seems more than fair, since he dosn’t sell quite as many as Wmart! The 2 Wmarts nearest me have not had the Wild Cherries or Reel Rides (Nortnern NJ), so check your LHS if you want them![:D]
No thanks! I’ll buy mine at Wally World…I just can’t see paying the hobby shop extra money when that extra money he will charge for the same cars is just as good(if not better) in my pocket.
Thats understandable for people that have them filling the shelves at wally every week, but for those that can’t get them without mail order its a nice alternative for them to be able to get some nice cars locally. At least they are not 5.00 or something.

The Wild Cherries are HO cars , most of them are makes you don’t normally see. AMC gremlins, Ford escorts etc. Dispite the fact everyone says they are at Wal Mart. I have 4 Superstores here in town and they haven’t had them here yet. I got desperate and ordered a six pack from Walthers.
He meant Fresh Cherries, not Wild Cherries.
And I would think paying an “extra” 70 cents for them from MRPO would be an excellent value compared to having to find a Wal-Mart that sells them, and put up with the hassle of shopping in a Wal-Mart.
And from what I’ve seen so far, your LHS is getting these cars in colors that Wal-Mart did not get.
I read or heard somewhere, perhaps from Bill Cawthon on this forum, that Motormax is no longer selling to Wal-Mart due to the restrictive price structure.
Motormax is selling the Fresh Cherries to Walthers for two reasons: First, they have a bit more pricing freedom (although they have raised their price to Wal-Mart, too) and, second, to boost sales by giving retailers and retail customers the ability to get the models they want, rather than playing “Wal-Mart Roulette.” This is also one of the reasons for the higher price (the other is the higher costs of the hobby channel).
Perhaps Wally-World fans don’t realize is those low, low prices come with a cost. In this case the cost is choice and availability. Motormax (and Malibu, Hot Wheels, Mattel and all the rest) sell Wal-Mart a pre-populated merchandiser, which means your available choices decline with each prior sale, and any given Wal-Mart might not reorder until the bulk of the models in that merchandiser are sold. Wal-Mart contracts for x number of these merchandisers and places an order. The contents and colors of the models can and, usually, will change over time to keep the line reasonably fresh, but the fact remains your choices are limited to what’s on the shelf at any given time. Plus, any Wal-Mart store that doesn’t feel the product is moving fast enough is free to drop the line, leaving you out of luck. Motormax wants to capture some of these lost sales; a pretty shrewd business tactic.

As I stated before I wised up and stop feeding full price hobby shops…ALL full price hobby shops can close their doors as far as I am concern.
If you feel you must feed the full price hobby shops go fer it and have fun paying more then you can buy hobby stuff for on line.As for me the money saved is better in my pocket then some LHS owner’s pocket that won’t give you twenty-five cents off the full MSRP.
Yeah, I saw this in the on-line catalog - mentioned it a month & a half ago in this thread. Looks like there still ain’t no sale on those (they were listed as $4.50 last month…)
And Brakie, I understand your point, and trust me I try to pay as little as possible, but if the Wal*Marts around here decide NOT to carry Fresh Cherries (oddly, they started getting in NEW Malibu releases, such as a late model XK Jag - grabbed one of those right quick), then you either gotta pay up (and we’re talking 2 bucks here, not 200 bucks) or go without - life ain’t nothin’ but a series of compromises [xx(]
(Oh, forgot to mention - that is the on-line Walther’s (MSRP) price - I’m probably gonna have to order the Escort & Tempo BEFORE they’re all sold out and going on eBay for fricking 20 bucks a pop)
I don’t know how you feel about a roadtrip to Greensburg or Delmont, PA but that’s where I bought mine at. Also try eBay I saw some guy selling them on his site but he advertises them as malibu international cars.
Thanks for the info, I did order two of the six packs from Walthers. A little tied down these days taking care of my terminal mother in law. The six pack are 19.99 so I guess roughly 3.25 a piece isn’t too bad. If I drove anywhere far at 3.00 a gallon the cars would cost me 6.00 to 8.00 dollars apiece.
Well up here in Canada NOBODY carries the Fresh Cherries or the Reel Rides cars. I was VERY happy to pay 3 times the price on Ebay just so I could get myself a few of the 77 Trans Ams. I’m glad Walthers is stocking them now, maybe they will start showing up in my LHS soon.
I don’t mean to sound harsh against all LHS…It just those that insist on charging FULL MSRP and won’t back off the price when you want to buy several items such as cars,locomotives,track or switches.Both full price hobby shops is a 52 mile round trip yet,these dealers won’t give those that drive several miles a modest price break…A mere 10% would be appreciated by those of us that drive several miles to shop in their shop.So,the heck with 'em.
As far as Walthers their lowest prices isn’t that low when you compare them to most on line prices!!! So,in that light I only order from Walthers(or Horizon) on a has needed bases for detail parts even though I can get some Atlas detail parts cheaper directly from Atlas…

Don’t know about the Fresh Cherries, but the Reel Rides won’t be offered in Canada at this time. As I understand it, the movie licenses cover only the United States.
These cars are a little big for HO scale, at least the ones I got. The Maverick scales out at 21 feet. I had a '68 Caddy limo that was that long.
Wow, that’s a bit off. The Maverick had a 103" wheelbase (8.5ft), and giving a generous 3 ft overhang in each direction (+6ft), that’s about 14.5ft long. As I said, seems a bit off…
You’re looking at the ones on the card-board blister pack - those are 1/64 !!! The H.O. (1/87) ones come in a small clear plastic box inside a windowed card-board box. …
