No, they won’t. No railroad out there is as stUPid as the UP. Most are perfectly content to see a positive image of their line presented in the media–hobby publication or otherwise.
But I sure wouldn’t recommend that ANY publisher out there use a UP image on their covers. Why take the chance wen there are so many more friendly alternatives to choose from?
When I read on this forum that CTT would be having an article on the ARR I had to get it. I took it into our Dispatch Center and we all rather enjoyed it. No we will not sue… or maybe I will run it by the Legal Department and see if they will cut me percentage… just kidding. Thanks CTT for the free advertising and I hope it will encourage more people to come up and ride our Great Railroad across the Greatland.

The Alaska RR has long been one of my favorites. At one point in time, some years ago, I decided to make it my railroad-of-choice for O gauge. However, for a long time there were relatively few items available and I eventually switched to another line. Today, though, there’s lots of great stuff out there for the ARR enthusiast, and I just may switch back again in the near future. I still have a bunch of ARR videos, and just love the trains and the spectacular setting they operate in. I’m very much hoping to make a trip up north (WAY up north) one of these days and spending some time seeing it first-hand. It’s definitely at the very top of my “wished-for-vacations” list!
Allan, sometimes the RR of choice is nto popular with the model train folks. So you do like I did in the late 70’s and early 80’s. CN was my choice then. I got paint and decals. I converted a lot of diesels and rolling stock to CN. That way they are all numbered different for those who are in to that. [;)] Actually I’m doing some of that now. NS is popular but I can pickup some cheaper items and then enjoy “converting” Them.
I hope to on e day make the ride up and sown the ARR. I’ve been told by friends who have, how beautiful it is. [:)]
A few years back we took a vaction to Alaska and road the ARR from Anchorage to one of the ports for a glacier cruise and the than to Danali and on to Fairbanks, very enjoyable. We also road the narrow gauge Yukon to Skagway. I wouldn’t mind taking that trip again but having more than the two weeks we had.
I’d like to see the Yukon train modeled in On3, I’ve seen it advertised in HO, that would be a great line to model.
You guys do have a fine operation up there, but I don’t envy your MW and B/B folks one bit–super tough job. Got to see your operations several years ago and was very impressed. Keep up the good work.
BTW, we’d love to find the opportunity to come back up there and be tourists again. Great place, and we thoroughly enjoyed both it and the local people we met.
That caption about a foot of fresh snow in Fairbanks didn’t sound right. In my experience, it doesn’t snow much there.
