Will Athearn GP38-2 RTR shell fit BB GP38-2 chassis?

I’ve been looking for a GP in a particular road name for a while now, and just found an Athearn RTR shell for sale on eBay. I’d like to use it atop one of my BB chassis if at all possible…

I am the very definition of a low end modeler! Pretty sad that RTR would be an upgrade - but glad to know my cheapo roster could feature a loco with split personality[:-^]

Hold on here…RTR is an upgrade over MOST BB locos. It is just that your GP is the same shell with detail parts added.

Don’t be embarassed. Heck, I still use some Life-Like equipment. I think the low end is the big end.

No need to be embarrass…Many experience modelers doesn’t realize that since metal grab irons and scale handrails was added and with the crisper paint,numbers in the number boards it doesn’t look like the same shell.

For some reason I thought perhaps the “guts” might be different, or how the shell attached to the chassis might be different. You are right about it not looking like the same shell - no overspray, grab irons already installed, numbered numberboards, “glass” in the windows - where’s the fun in that![:P][swg]
