Will it blow up??

If I spray Badger Modelflex paints and turn a normal house fan on(the square type), will it spark and catch on fire??

Thanks,

Smoke

Smoke,

Only if you have a horrendous amount of paint concentration in the air. (You’d probably pass out way before you even got to that point.) Are you ventilating it out of the house?

Tom

Badger Modelflex is water based. It would still be a good idea to exhaust to the outside.

Will it blow up?

No…Let’s face the truth…After years of using floquil in the can with a fan I haven’t blown myself to kingdom come…The past few years I been using Poly S and still haven’t blown myself to kingdom come.

Badger paints definitely won’t, as they’re water based. I’ve been using water based latex paints for many years and haven’t had any real problems to speak of, other than that they tend to make my handkerchief different colors when I blow my nose.

Actually, you are safe for two reasons.

  1. Water based paints do not contain large amounts of explosive solvents

  2. A standard window fan should use a type of motor that does not spark. Under normal conditions only brush type motors spark (dremel tool, cordless drill).

Give it a shot!!! [:P]

Yes. Run!!!

A word of caution. Do not use a house fan for paint that is not water based.

I use one of the squirrel cage type of fans. The motor is isolated from the air stream and thye can move a large amount of air.

Durning a time when I could not use my paint booth inside, I painted outside a few times on a concrete slab behind a wall to protect my from any light wind, but used a garden hose first to water down the entire area to eliminate any dust from the area. You cannot paint when any major wind is blowing outside but it is possible to prepare an area and get good results outside in 70 degree weather.

.

you should be alrigth the worst thing that could happen is: “BOOOOMMMM!!! [#oops]”

It won’t blow up. worst that can happen is a quick burn- off of fumes. on the bright side, eyebrows DO grow back![:-^][;)][(-D]

I didn’t know Modelflex marketed nitroglycerin!!!

Just the handkerchief?? As one who is severly asthmatic, I have to say “just think what pretty colors it turns the inside your lungs”!. [;)]ANd for those who own cars or take public transportation and say we are NOT polluting the air, I say attach a hose to the end of your exhaust pipe and run it up inside a bag over your head while the engine is running. See how long you can breath! [:-^]

Modeling (ironically) the G, B & S in HO.The Grimey, Black & Sooty.

An older steam railroad that operates near: the town of Grimey sits on a bluff and tunnel overlooking the steam loco service yard at Sooty. The bluff and tunnel are the Black cliffs.

I’d have to say that this is the best title I’ve seen for a thread in a long time.

And the Gomez Addams line may be one of the best replies.
