Will the Saluda Grade reopen??

According to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, SC is going ahead with the inland, (Railroad), port in Greer, SC, with $25 million. Also the port of Charleston, SC, will most likely be deepened to 50 ft.

There are only 2 RR’s that leave Spartanburg and go to Charleston; NS and CXS. At this time there is only one active RR north from Spartanburg to TN, CXS on the old Clinchfield RR. The only other rails north from Spartanburg to TN are the NS using the Saluda Grade. NS’s only other line is from Spencer, NC through Old Fort to Ashville, NC.

I live in Landrum, SC and look at the pile of dirt with 6 to 7 foot weeds growing out of it at the cut in the line 5 days a week

…That must be a “downer” to have to see that rail “cut” and a mound of dirt on it each day of the week you pass there…For rail fans, It sure is a loss to not have activity on the “Hill”, but I certainly understand the company has to have a means to make it “pay” to be used…and make a profit.

Let’s hope that reality might become fact {noting the above info of the channels}, in the not too distant future.
