Will there ever be a Tsunami decoder for diesel? I emailed SoundTraxx a long time ago and asked when it will be on the market, but I got no answer. Please tell me what you know about this subject.
I have heard that they are working on it, but if you think about the nature of the beast the delay is understandable. For a steam engine, you had far fewer sound variables between engines to choose from and incorporate into a decoder’s memory capacity. For a diesel engine, there are a lot of different diesel motors, superchargers, bells, horns, etc. whose sounds must be digitized and programmed into the chip. There have also been claims of world-wide chip shortages. And, don’t forget, SoundTraxx is a small family-owned business with limited financial resources.
I have emailed SoundTraxx more recently and they have answered very positive about the new Tsunami product for the diesel model. The schedule has slipped several times much like the steam version and we are all just waiting for it to show up.
Look at it this way. Some of us have been waiting for such a product for close to forty years of running model trains, so what is another few months. The engineer that was working on the Tsunami line was hired away from SoundTraxx about eighteen months ago by their competition and the schedule has slipped much more than anticipated.
No, it was not MRC, but they sure do need help in my opinion. a hint!! The first three letters: (Dig) I have several of the Genesis Challengers and have installed a Tsunami in one of them that I have been preparing for service and will replace all of the MRC decoders as they are needed.
